In the seaside town of Littlehampton, residents are shaken when a series of anonymous letters packed with outrageous profanities begins to arrive, with conservative local Edith among the targets. Suspicion quickly falls on Rose, a rowdy Irish migrant, and she is charged with the crime. But as doubts grow, the women of the town band together to uncover what is really going on.
