Thomas and his friends set out on an adventure beyond the Island of Sodor and onto the mainland, where Thomas meets new experimental engines and faces a challenge that tests what really matters. As James needs help getting back home, Thomas learns that friendship means more than being the favorite engine, and that working together may be the key to bringing James safely back to Sodor.
