After another Broadway failure, struggling producer Max Bialystock finds an unlikely partner in timid accountant Leo Bloom. Together they devise a crooked get-rich-quick plan: raise far more money than they need from wealthy older investors, stage an intentionally terrible musical, and keep the profits when it closes. Their chosen disaster is a tasteless show celebrating Adolf Hitler.
