At the start of the First World War in East Africa, a gin-soaked Canadian riverboat captain crosses paths with a strait-laced English missionary. As conflict reaches their remote corner of Africa, she persuades him to take his boat onto a dangerous river, where their unlikely mission is to confront a German gunship.
