In a British juvenile offender institution in the 1970s, new inmate Carlin arrives with a reputation as a hard case. The authorities push gang leader Pongo to break him down, but Carlin refuses to be humbled. As violence, neglect, and intimidation shape life on the ward, he becomes an unlikely force among the boys under the guards’ brutal control.
