After years of combat, loner John Rambo has begun to find a measure of peace in a Buddhist monastery. When his friend and Green Beret mentor, Col. Trautman, asks him to join a top secret mission in Afghanistan, Rambo refuses to return to war. But when Trautman is captured by Soviet forces, Rambo is forced to reconsider and face the violence he has tried to leave behind.
