A grifter starts out as a low-ranking worker in a traveling carnival, where his gift for reading people and manipulating them with carefully chosen words helps him rise into a celebrated psychic medium. As his ambitions grow, he becomes involved with a female psychologist whose insight and intentions may make her even more dangerous than he is.
