In 1935, Hungarian-American para-psychologist Dr. Nandor Fodor travels to the Isle of Man to investigate an unusual claim from the Irving family, who say a mysterious entity has contacted them at their farm: a talking mongoose named Gef, pronounced Jeff. As Fodor presses for answers, the case draws him into a web of hidden motives where everyone around the strange occurrence becomes suspect.
