In the late 1960s, Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson stops touring to focus on the studio, pushing pop music in bold new directions with Pet Sounds as his mental health begins to unravel. By the 1980s, he is a fragile and confused man living under the constant control of therapist Dr. Eugene Landy, until a connection with Melinda Ledbetter offers a chance to see his life more clearly.
