A bickering couple driving cross-country through California make a dangerous mistake when they pick up a hitchhiker. The stranger turns out to be psychotic, carrying two million dollars and willing to use deadly threats to get what he wants. Forced to keep driving, the couple must take him toward Mexico as their already tense trip turns into a fight to stay alive.
